Rate Groups allow you to organize groups of rates for specific timekeepers, making it easy to assign a group of rates for timekeepers to an open matter.
The improved rate group(s) management user experience is available from AdvoLogix Matter Management v1.151 onward.
Viewing a Rate Group
By default, the rate group record page is managed by AdvoLogix using a custom Lightning record page dedicated to rate groups. The view is split into three main sections:
The details tab allows you to easily view or edit your rate group-specific details.
- Rate Group Name - Set a name for this rate group.
- Code - [optional] Provide a code to quickly identify the rate group.
- Active - Mark the rate group as Active. (Only an active rate group can be applied to matters.)
- Account - Choose an account to associate this rate group with a specific account.
- Description - Provide a brief description to go with your rate group.
- Last Applied Date - This shows an automatically computed date when this rate group last applied to any matter within your organization.
The rate group members tab allows you to manage all your timekeeper-based member-specific rates. You can add, edit, or remove members from the rate group using this view.
Use the action button Add New Member to add new members to your rate group.
1. Basic Information
- Timekeeper - Search and select a timekeeper to add as a member within the rate group.
- Role - [optional] Search and select a role to add the combination of timekeeper and a specific role as a member within the rate group.
- Rate - Provide the rate amount for this rate group member.
- Cost - Provide the cost associated with this rate group member.
- Rate Group - The current rate group is pre-selected here.

2. Confirmation
AdvoLogix will ask for a confirmation to add the new rate group member to the open matters where this rate group has already been applied. Clicking Save with Yes or No option:
- Yes: Choosing yes will automatically add the new member to the rate group as a new rate to all the applied open matters for the rate group.
- No: Choosing no will save the rate group member. (You may apply the rate group later to the matters manually with all new or changed member-specific changes.)
Use the action button Remove Selected Member to delete one or more selected rate group members from your rate group.
AdvoLogix will ask for a confirmation to remove the rate group member from the open matters to which this rate group was applied. Clicking Yes or No actions:
- Yes: Choosing yes will remove any rates identified for the rate group member from all the open matters to which the rate group has been applied.
- No: Choosing no will delete the rate group member from the rate group.
Use the Edit row action menu to edit and make changes to the rate group member.
AdvoLogix will ask for a confirmation to apply the changes made to the rate group member and apply them to all the open matters to which this rate group has already been applied. Clicking Save with Yes or No option:
- Yes: Choosing yes will update the rates identified for the member to all the open matters to which this rate group has been applied.
- No: Choosing no will save the rate group member. (You may apply the rate group later to the matters manually with all new or changed member-specific changes.)
The applied rates tab shows all the rates associated with this rate group and applied to various matters within your organization. You can visualize all your rate group applied rates here by either timekeepers or matters. Additionally, you may activate an action flow to apply this rate group to any open matter within your organization.
Use the Apply Rate Group action button to launch a flow that will guide you in applying the rate group to your chosen matters. Once a rate group has been applied, the list will automatically refresh to show the new and updated rates grouped by matters or timekeepers to which this rate group has been applied.
Users may apply rate group(s) to matter(s) in multiple ways. For more details on how to apply rate group(s) to one or more matter(s), follow this link.
Only an active rate group and an active rate group member can be applied to matters. If your selected matter is a closed matter or the matter has Do not auto-update rates from the rate group as checked, then the process will skip that matter, and the rate group will not be applied to those matters.
