Date Calculation Business Rules

The AdvoLogix date calculation business rules allow organizations to perform date-based calculations based on a variety of use cases. In addition to incorporating weekend options, specific functionality is available for implementing holidays through the organization's business hours configuration.

1. Adding or Subtracting Days To/From a Specific Date

The business rules pertaining to adding and/or subtracting days are incorporated by functionality found in Activity Plans and the Date Calculator.

1.1. Adding or Subtracting by Calendar Days

Adding or subtracting by Calendar Days is  the process of deriving a result date by adding (or subtracting) a given number of days, months and/or years to/from a specific date. All days on the calendar are counted without regard to business hours.

When counting by Calendar Days the resulting date has the potential to fall on a non-business day. In those cases, the following options allow users to adjust the result date.

  1. Allow Non-Business Day
  2. Select the Following Business Day
  3. Select the Preceding Business Day

When selecting to adjust the result date to a business day (options 2 & 3) the user also has the option to choose a method for determining non-business days. This option also allows users to simply treat weekends as non-business days or select a specific business hours configuration where non-business days are tailored for a variety of business purposes (courts, business units, geographic locations, etc).

1.2. Adding or Subtracting by Business Days

Adding or subtracting by Business Days is the process of deriving a result date by adding (or subtracting) a given number of business days to/from a specific date. Business Days can be determined by the organization's business hours configuration or by standard weekdays (Monday through Friday). 

2. Counting Days

The business rules pertaining to adding and/or subtracting days are incorporated by functionality found in the AdvoLogix Date Calculator.

2.1. By Calendar Days

Counting by Calendar Days is  the process of deriving the number of days between two specified dates. All days on the calendar are counted without regard to business hours or weekends.

2.2. By Business Days

Counting by Business Days is  the process of deriving the number of business days between two specified dates. Business Days are determined by the organization's business hours configuration or by standard weekdays (Monday through Friday).
