Company Profile Overview

This is a collection of the information about the company / firm using Advologix, which determines the default behavior of many features. Much of the information is setup during the initial sign-up process, but Company Administrators can modify the data as needed to ensure they are correct.

The information in the Company Profile falls into three main categories: company, financial and support information.

Company Profile

Company Profile

Company information includes contact details, geographical local Information, such as time zone, the language spoken, and the currency used, and system information.

Financial information includes the company's fiscal year, and the currencies and exchange rates used (where applicable for your organization).

Locale Settings

Locale Settings

Locale settings are a group of settings in the company profile used to configure the default information display, based on a company's geographical location.

Locale:

Locale:

Locale settings determine locale-specific formats for date and time, users’ names, addresses, and commas and periods in numbers.

You can find a list of Force.com supported locales under your personal settings.

  1. At the top of any Force.com page, click the down arrow next to your name. From the menu under your name, select Setup or My Settings whichever one appears.
  2. From the left pane, select one of the following:
    • If you clicked Setup, select My Personal Information | Personal Information, then click Edit.
    • If you clicked My Settings, select Personal | Language & Time Zone.
  3. Click the Locale drop-down list for a list of supported locales.

Locale names with a country in parentheses also set a default currency.

For example, a US company would want to display dates with the month first, and times with AM and PM; whereas a European company would display the day first and use the twenty-four hour clock. Similarly, US companies would use a comma to separate numbers over one thousand; whereas in many European countries the comma is used as a decimal point.

Language:

Language:

Language determines the language for the text in the user interface. This includes such things as tabs and field labels, and text on buttons.

* It also determines what language is used in the Salesforce specific Help & Training portal.

The Force.com Web user interface has two language settings:

  • Personal language All on-screen text, images, buttons, and online help display in this language. Edit your personal information to change this setting.
  • Default organization language This applies to all new users until they select their personal language. This setting also determines the language in which all customizations such as custom fields, tabs, and user interface options are stored. For customizations, users' personal language settings don't override this default setting. Some setup items that are manually entered by an administrator can be translated in the Translation Workbench.

Administrators can change this setting by editing the company information.

Text entered by users remains in the language in which it was entered.

What About Organizations with users in different Locales?

What About Organizations with users in different Locales?

When setting up the company profile - locale settings will be inherited from the default locale setting (on the company profile) down to the user's personal local settings.

In an International company with users indifferent locals and time ones, speaking different languages: each user has their own personal local settings on their user record.

When a company administrator creates user requiring different locale settings, he/she can simply change the default settings on the user record. In this way, the administrator can ensure that every user has the correct locale, language and time zone settings. (See Also: Adding Employees (Users) / Approx. Time to setup Employees: 2-3 Min. ea. / Video Available )

Fiscal Year:

Fiscal Year:

The fiscal Year determines what start and end dates are used when users select a time frame in reports or *forecasts

By default the system uses a standard fiscal year which follows the Gregorian calendar.

~ Companies whose fiscal year does not follow the Gregorian calendar can define a custom fiscal year

*for example, they may have a 13-month fiscal year or 13-week fiscal quarters, or a fiscal year not starting on the first day of the month.

There are many important considerations when setting your fiscal year or defining a custom one, so See: 'Setting your fiscal year' in Salesforce specific Help & Training for more information, before making your changes.

Currency

Currency

Currency Settings determine how numerical values are displayed in currency fields such as an amount field on a Matter record. Force.com organizations are single currency by default. This means that ALL currency values are displayed in the same currency, which is set through the Currency Locale field on the Company Profile.

You must specify a Corporate Currency, which reflects the currency in which your corporate headquarters reports revenue. A representative initially sets your corporate currency upon activation of the feature. All conversion rates are based on the corporate currency.

To change your currency:

  1. From Setup, click Company Profile | Company Information | edit | in the Local Setting section change the Currency Locale if desired.
  2. Click Save.

Multiple Currencies (multi-currency functionality needs to be requested to be enabled)

Multiple Currencies (multi-currency functionality needs to be requested to be enabled)

Multi-currency (needs to be requested to be enabled)

Multi-currency adds a new Manage Currencies option under Company Profile in Setup, from where corporate currency can be set and new currencies activated for different users and customers.

Each user has their own personal currency on their user record.

~ Thus defaults to the corporate currency, but can be changed based on the user's location.

Each record has its own record currency, which defaults to the currency of the creator of the record.

~ This can be changed if required, to reflect the customer's own currency for example.

So when a user views a record; in an organization where Multi-currency is enabled; they will see amounts displayed in record currency , and in their own personal currency, if different.
